Aim and Scope
Dance Major Journal provides a voice for those who study dance at a university level, and, in doing so, asks of what value a dance education is, what dance does in the world, and what dancers and audiences want or need to know. Its readership includes dance majors and also those who seek to understand them and dance in general. DMJ has included, but is not limited to, essays on: dance-related travels, dance injury prevention, profiles of alumni, audition tips, body image issues, and commentaries on topics such as hip hop’s place in university dance departments. DMJ welcomes conversational writing style, personal essays, new formats, humor, stories, and “answers for dance majors” (ways to explain to the outside world the value and facts of a dance education), as well as academically sound essays using clear language and lively prose.
