The Center for Ideas and Society provides a comprehensive program to address current and future needs in the humanities within the University of California and beyond. The Center was established in 1989 as part of the Humanities Initiative of the Office of the President of the University of California. The UCR Center for Ideas and Society promotes and advances humanistic research and study at the University of California, Riverside, as well as nationally and internationally. While the fellowships and programs of the Center do serve the needs of scholars working within the traditional disciplines, the Center's primary goal is to encourage new research from interdisciplinary perspectives in the humanities, arts, and social sciences.
