The Law of the Sea Institute (LOSI) is an international consortium of scholars that has played a major part in the study of ocean/coastal law and policy since its inception in 1965. Administration of LOSI was transferred to the Institute for Legal Research, an Organized Research Unit at UC Berkeley, in 2002 after being based at three other universities with strong ocean law programs. Professors Harry N. Scheiber and David Caron serve as co-chairs of LOSI. Other participants in the Institute's scholarly activities include judges of the UN Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, university-based authorities in the United States and overseas institutions, and members of the broader scientific, policy studies, international law, and social science communities.

There are 14 publications in this collection, published in 2003.
