Submission Guidelines

Who Can Submit

Museum and Curatorial Studies only publishes materials about work conducted under the auspices of Museum and Curatorial Studies. For additional information, please contact the Director, Lucian Gomoll at macs@ucsc.edu.

How to Submit a Paper

We accept articles in Microsoft Word that follow the Chicago Manual of Style's "B citational style," with abbreviated author, date, page references in parentheses coordinated with a list of works cited. Footnotes should be reserved for additional discussion.

We also accept alternative forms of publication (i.e. artistic essays, exhibition catalogs, reviews), and are open to other citational styles for such projects, so long as it is approved by us in advance.

For all postings, we require an abstract of 300-500 words. Please also select keywords that will help a user locate your paper through a search

Submit your contribution by emailing it to macs@ucsc.edu. Include in an email message the following materials: abstract; keywords; and name, affiliation (department and university), and email address for each author.

We will convert all files into Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format for online publication.

If you have any questions, please contact us at macs@ucsc.edu.

Overview of the Process

After you submit your paper, we will reply with a confirmation. Depending on the type of submission, we will reply with feedback, or create an Adobe Acrobat (PDF) version of the paper, for your review. Please look it over within 10 days and reply to macs@ucsc.edu as soon as possible. You will be notified by e-mail when the paper is posted.

How to Revise Your Paper

If you publish your project or a revised version elsewhere, please send the citation of the new version to macs@ucsc.edu. We will be able to inform researchers about the new version.

If you would like to post a revised version of your paper on the site, please follow the instructions in "How to Submit"; however, please specify when you submit the paper that it is a revision.
